Applying Effects + Using Expand

Lesson 13 of 24

Applying Effects + Using Expand

In this lesson we'll learn:

  • How to apply an effect to an object

  • Why it's important to expand after using an effect

  • How to use the offset path feature

  • How to add a drop shadow

Take Action:

  1. Download the practice worksheet.

  2. Select the circle and apply a roughen texture to it.

  3. Expand the object.

  4. Make a copy of your circle (Control C) and paste it behind (Control B). While it's still selected, change its color, leave it selected and go to effect > path > offset path.

  5. While it's still selected, expand.

  6. Add a drop shadow to one of the objects and spend some time exploring your options in the drop shadow panel.

  7. Try warping your object using different effects in the warp panel (make sure to expand afterwards!).
