How to setup a studio as a Surface Pattern Designer!

In the beginning stages, as an aspirational Surface Pattern Designer, I started saving to set up my own studio where I can work with focus and make my dreams come true. Following are the things you need to build a studio that will help to accelerate your workflow.

  1. Laptop or Desktop with Adobe Illustrator CC

You would need a Macbook laptop or a desktop iMac with preferably Adobe Illustrator CC installed. Some of the designers work on Adobe Photoshop too but I have chosen to work on Adobe Illustrator as I am more proficient in it and for small tasks I work in Photoshop.

  2. Wacom Intuos Pro

A Wacom Intuos Pro is a drawing tablet that is a great tool to illustrate art. It comes with a pen that has exceptional performance, is easy to set up, and has a quality that lasts. You can purchase easily with great offers on the Wacom section in the amazon store.

  3. iPad Pro

During the Surface Pattern Designing process, using an iPad Pro is a luxury because it increases the workflow. Having it is not a necessity but it’s worth having it. I use the apps of Procreate, Adobe Draw, Adobe Fresco, and much more. It come with different storage 128 GB , 216 GB , 512 GB and 1TB GB. Yes, you read it right Terra Byte. So, the more you invest in it, the better. I bought 128 GB only because I needed only to draw with Apple Pencil which is so pressured sensitive that it will pick up whatever you draw on it.

  4. Desk

I purchased the MALM IKEA pull-out panel table which is great to have the pull-out panel also for extra space.

  5. Drawers

A chest of drawers is necessary in a studio if you don’t want to see your creative place messy. I invested in IKEA Alex Drawer Unit to keep my art supplies in one place.

  6. Sketchbooks

  7. Micron Pens

  8. Winsor and Newton Watercolors

  9. Winsor and Newton Brushes

  10. Winsor and Newton Gouache Colors
